|Exploding Bridgewire System Test Equipment
Teledyne Electronic Safety Products has developed a full set of test equipment to support exploding bridgewire (EBW) initiators for ordnance initiation.
The equipment enables users to test EBW initiators, High Energy Firing Units, destruct controllers, and installed cabling.
All equipment is current solid-state design with full self-test functions built-in. Production deliveries of all units began in 1991.
The Electrically Simulated Exploding Bridgewire (ESEBW) is a compact light weight unit designed to test the output of high energy firing units.
It is operated on 28 VDC and draws less than 300 milliamps. The unit is environmentally sealed and electrically isolated from the case. It detects stray voltage
and makes precision measurements of HEFU firing output. All voltage and pulse width thresholds are verifiable by self-test. An analog oscilloscope output monitor is
provided. The unit is designed to MIL-T-2880 drop requirements and operates from 25°F to 100°F. It is environmentally compatible with explosive propellants.
The ESEBW has been approved for use by East and West Range Safety.
Grid Dip Meter (GDM)
The GDM is a bench type test set which is used to perform non-destructive tests of Exploding Bridgewire Initiators. The use of this unit permits measurement of the natural frequency
of the initiator so that it can be compared with the "as delivered" condition to insure Bridgewire integrity is intact. It operates on 110 VAC and draws less than 3 amps. EBW
frequency standards are provided for calibration verification. The GDM is designed to operate in a laboratory environment using standard off-the-shelf components. The GDM has been
approved for use by East and West Range Safety.
Spark Gap Tester (SGT)
The SGT is a bench type test set which is used to perform nondestructive tests of Exploding Bridgewire Initiators. The unit verifies that the spark gap breakdown voltage is within tolerance.
It is operated on 100 VAC and draws less than 3 amps. EBW voltage breakdown standard is provided for calibration verification. The SGT is designed to operate in a laboratory environment using
off-the-shelf components. The SGT has been approved for use by East and West Range Safety.
Stray Voltage Detector (SVD)
The SVD is a compact light weight unit designed to test installed Exploding Bridgewire Systems. Its function is to test High Energy firing Unit output lines for stray voltage to insure that the lines are safe to connect to the Exploding Bridgewire initiators. The unit is
operated by a 9 VDC battery with 500 hours of useful life. The display is backlit for low light application with a last reading hold feature. A one-hour automatic shut-off timer is provided to guard against accidental turn on. The SVD is environmentally sealed and is compatible with launch pad corrosive environments. The SVD has been approved for use by East and West Range Safety.
